What to Do if Your Phone Gets Wet
If your iPhone or Samsung phone has been exposed to liquid or shows a moisture alert, avoid making the damage worse while you decide what to do next. Guidance can differ by model, so check the device maker’s instructions as well.
First steps
- Disconnect the charging cable or accessory. Do not reconnect it while the phone or cable is wet.
- Follow the manufacturer’s drying instructions for your exact model. Apple advises airflow and says not to use external heat, compressed air, or objects in the charging connector.
- Do not try to charge a wet phone. Samsung also advises allowing moisture to clear before connecting a charger.
- If the phone was submerged, exposed to another liquid, or still will not work after it is dry, call before charging or visiting so we can discuss the model and next step.
Read the current Apple liquid-detection guidance or Samsung moisture-alert support for model-specific instructions. These steps are general information and do not replace manufacturer directions.
